Guide to tipping your house cleaner be it a cleaning lady or a house cleaning service team .
With over 20 years of experience as an owner operator of Long Island house cleaning maid service and having many friends who are house cleaners or own a competing house cleaning service I can comfortably say most of us have quiet similar if not identical point of view when it comes to tipping house cleaners.
Now we all are used to tipping our service providers like waiter at a restaurant, barista at the coffe shop, a bartender or store atendant that helped us load sone stuff into our car but when it comes to house cleaning most people wonder should I Tip my house cleaning service or house cleaner and if so when and how much ?
Tipping for weekly and by weekly house cleaning.
While it is a most welcome surprise to see an occasional $5-$10-$20 and appreciated, most cleaner do not actualy expect a tip on the regular weekly or by weekly house cleaning schedule - what i recomend and is expected when you hire your cleaning lady or cleaning service for this scheduled cleaning try not to ever cancel those appointments as that is honestly what I understand might be the one thing that hurts us all the most so keeping your appointments without any changes or interruptions is of most importance. If you absolutly must cancel please give your cleaning people as much advance notice as possible to give them a chance to fill that spot, just think about it this way a house cleaning job is just like any other job, how would you feel if you came to work amd you boss said well today no work for you between say 10am and 12 so you can sit here or go grab a coffe somewhere but you can't go home no time for that so you king off must stay at work for free these 2 hours... now many of cleaning service owners will actually pay their cleaners for that time anyways to make sure the cleaners are happy with their jobs and continue doing there best work possible.
How much to tip a house cleaning service or cleaning lady for Christmas?
The one time a year we all actually hope for a tip and expect it is Christmas time and after over 20 years in business myself and with talking to many other cleaning service owner operators and self emploed cleaning ladies here is a little honest secret most of us think as the norm and makes us feel appreciated. No matter how many people are coming to clean your house on regular schedule be it 1 cleaning lady or a team of cleaners the same is actually expected - the amount of $$$ you pay per each regular cleaning visit for a Christmas tip is considered a normal tip good tip that will make everyone happy - what that basically means at the end of it all is that each cleaner will get at least a 1 weeks worth Christmas tip and that is considered great and makes a cleaning person happy and appreciated. Now if you are still wondering well if there is a team of cleaners should I Tip more since there is more people ? Well while that is totally up to you please keep in mind the bigger team also mean more jobs are done per day.
Other times that are actually good to consider tipping you house cleaner.
On big initial house cleaning or one time deep cleaning like move in cleaning - these jobs are actually crazy tough - this is one reason we do not do too many of those and try not to do more then 1 a week on top of our regular schedule as you really do have to work like crazy on these cleaning and feel them for awhile - tipping on those jobs is very appreciated.
